Some things are sold in pairs. Some things you only have a few of and want to spread around. Both are the same control: Order quantity limits, in the Pricing section of a product's form.
- Minimum per order is the fewest a shopper may buy. Leave it empty for no minimum.
- Maximum per order is the most. Leave it empty for no maximum.
The note on the section is the rule that catches people out: the limits apply per selected variant on each order. A maximum of six on a t-shirt means six smalls and six mediums in the same order, not six shirts in total. And they are per order, so nothing stops someone ordering again tomorrow.
What a shopper sees
The quantity control on the product page starts at your minimum and will not go past your maximum, and the cart refuses a quantity outside the range with a message saying what the limit is.
If it does not work
- The limit is not applied: save the product. The fields are part of the form, so they take effect when the form is saved.
- A shopper got round it with two lines: the limit is per variant. Two different sizes are two lines, each with its own allowance.
- The minimum blocks everyone: check it against your stock. A minimum of ten on a product with four in stock cannot be bought at all.
