Set up payment methods

Switch on at least one way for customers to pay. Pay on delivery needs nothing; bank transfer needs your payout account; card payments need your own Paystack, Monnify or Stripe keys.

Customers can only pay in ways you have switched on, and a store with nothing on tells them it is not accepting online orders. Set up payment methods is the row on Home that opens the page where you switch them on.

The Payment Methods page

Choose Set up on the row. It opens Settings → Payments → Payment Methods, in two groups.

Payment Methods: direct payments and your payment gateways
  • Direct payments need no provider: Manual Bank Transfer (customers transfer to your bank account and upload proof; you confirm the order yourself) and Pay on Delivery (customers pay cash when the order arrives).
  • Your payment gateways take cards and bank payments through your own account with Paystack, Monnify or Stripe. Each needs your own keys before its switch works, and the money settles to you on the provider's terms; the platform holds none of it.

Switch on Manual Bank Transfer

Its switch first asks for your payout account: the bank and the ten-digit account number customers will transfer to. The account is verified against the bank, and once it is saved the method switches itself on.

Add your payout account: bank, account number, Save and activate

Save & activate stays greyed out until the account verifies, so choose the bank from the list first and type the number exactly as it appears on your statement.

Switch on Pay on Delivery

Its switch asks only for confirmation: Enable Pay on Delivery? Choose Enable and it is on.

Enable Pay on Delivery? with Cancel and Enable
Pay on Delivery switched on

Pay on Delivery suits a store that delivers locally and collects cash at the door. Orders arrive unpaid and you mark them paid when the cash is in hand.

Connect a gateway

Each gateway card shows No keys connected and a Connect keys link. That opens the connection page for the provider, where you paste the keys from your provider's dashboard, test the connection and come back to switch the method on. The steps for each provider are on Connect a payment provider.

Back on Home

The row ticks as soon as any one method is on.

If it does not work

  • Save & activate is greyed out: the account has not verified. Check the bank and the number; the name on the account is looked up from the bank, and a mismatch stops it here rather than at your first payout.
  • A gateway's switch will not move: no keys are connected yet. Choose Connect keys first.
  • Customers see "not accepting online orders": nothing is switched on. Switch on at least one method.
  • The row did not tick: refresh Home. It reads the state fresh each time it opens.
